Gordie and Chris

             The movie, “Stand By Me”, is about the coming of age of a group of four boys who go on adventure to find a dead body and experience things that make them grow up and be a little less innocent. This group of four boys are best friends but there are two boys in the group who are especially close.  Gordie and Chris are like brothers. They not only share things with each other and stand by each other but they also have a very special connection, which the movie shows, is never lost no matter what. Gordie and Chris have a brotherly relationship that is closer than any other two boys I have ever seen.

            Gordie and Chris will stand up for each other even if it means trouble . They both end up using weapons in the movie as well as going on a search for a dead body without telling the police first. But the boys are very interesting in the way that they have two sides to them. There is the side of both of them where they will fight and/or use weapons if they feel it’s right, but they also are very caring, sentimental and smart. Both of them in the movie cry with each other and reveal deep feelings about their lives to one another. They are the type of boys who are both tough but also have a soft and sensitive side. I think that they are forced to lean on each other in times when they don’t have a family member to talk to about what’s troubling them. Chris’s family is full of criminals and alcoholics \ and Gordie’s family is battling the loss of his brother who had always paid more attention to Gordie than either of his parents did. They don’t have supportive families so they found each other and realized that if they have each other, things will be fine and that they can share and do anything with each other.  I feel bad for both Gordie and Chris because they don’t have families to support them but I also think they are very lucky to have one another because not many people have such close friendships like Gordie and Chris. I know that most friendships grow apart over the years and that Gordie and Chris’s friendship did, but I know that they never forgot about each other and their adventure. They would always be friends at heart. 

            Overall, i think that the friendship portrayed in the movie is a friendship everyone wants. One where you can do anything together and experience things together that are scary or sad or both. A friendship where you can grow with each other for a number of years. A friendship that will never be lost even if you don't keep in touch forever. The way that Gordie and Chris stand by each other for support and comfort as apposed to their families is very heart warming because you know that there is someone there for the both of them. They are an example of an amazing friendship and i love the way it's portrayed in the movie. The entire movie is great as well!
